There’s a phrase in Buddhism, ‘Beginner’s mind’, it’s wonderful to have a beginner’s mind.
— Steve Jobs

I love this quote from Steve Jobs.

There's something humbling about being a beginner, especially as an adult.

We're used to putting ourselves into situations where we're at least adept, if not more than comfortable... But learning new things affects the neuro-plasticity of the brain.

The more you learn, the more your capacity to learn increases.

So this week I've dipped my toe (and broke it too) into Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.

It's a ridiculously steep learning curve.

I am being thrown around, lied on, choked and stretched in horrible positions.

When you first start you feel like you're drowning in a sea of arms and legs; but I trust it will get easier.

The beginner mind is like a sponge, but it gives up easily so you need to show it who is boss and take charge.

Success lies at the edge of your comfort zone.
