These are interesting times at the moment on social media.

Since Instagram blatantly ripped-off Snapchat, there's been a shift of thinking from people who were 'all in' on Snapchat, to some weird diluted mix of the two.

Personally, I am sticking with Snapchat for stories. And I'll use Instagram how I always did.

I loved Instagram the way it was, but what I am not so keen on is one platform being the hub for everything. It feels like that could be more utilised to serve an agenda.

Everyone is saying that Instagram will win purely because people have big audiences over there... And many do. But I reckon Instagram is so flooded with spammers and bots that there's more to the issue than simply numbers.

This morning I was talking to my Snapchat friend Amy who lives in Washington State... She mentioned an idea that she liked Snapchat stories that were a glimpse into a life, rather than being overtly content driven.

I realised that's what I liked too, but hadn't been able to wrap it up into a clear idea.

My basic day (on Snapchat) follows a very consistent structure.

People like content that is episodic in nature, so that's why I do it.

A predictable cycle underpins the strategy, but with 'funny observations' and other content dropped in along the way to keep people wondering what might happen next.

Like any good story it should have a clear beginning, middle and end.

But add some fun twists and turns along the way to keep it from becoming mundane.

The idea is to give a little glimpse into your world.

People are inherently nosey (curious) so this is your opportunity to paint a picture of how you want them to see you.

The one thing I love about Snapchat is that it is small and it's hard to find people.

It makes you focus on one snap, one story, one glimpse and one conversation at a time.

It makes you be sociable rather than spamming and selling.

I don't think that can be said about many other platforms.

People are still winning lots of new business through it... But, most importantly, they're building friendships and connections with people all over the world and forming tribes of like-minded souls.

And that's cool as hell.
