It hardly needs saying, but I'm going to do it anyway.

If you don't network, you won't survive.

This is true in business, for most of us at least, but I'm quite confident it's got wider applications.

Most small business owners know this, so inevitably end up eating breakfast with a bunch of local business folks once or twice a week.

Don't get me wrong, organised networking events are great. I use them myself, and they are pivotal in the way I market myself and my services.

But I thought there could be a way where I could utilise the model and create my own event too. One where I attracted the type of people who could become customers. Now that would be awesome...

So that's what I did. I set up Saturday Startup and have made tonnes of great connections, a few good mates and a handful of clients... And it's only 6 months old.

If you're interested, you can have a look at our group here... http://www.meetup.com/saturday-startup/

For anyone looking to raise their profile, develop some skills or increase their network I'd highly recommend at least using meetup.com to attend events. There could be some great ones close to where you live.

If you don't see what you're looking for, then that's great... You've just found an opportunity to set one up for yourself.

If you have any questions about the process, I'd be more than happy to offer advice based around my experience... Just shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do.

One final plug before I leave you in peace:

If you're in the Manchester area and fancy dipping your toe in the water with meetup, why not pop along to my bookclub?

We meet every month in a nice pub on a Sunday afternoon... See the link below to find out what we've got coming up:
